Melbourne Palliative Care Veterinarian
Dr Charlotte is a Melbourne North mobile Vet who delivers compassionate rehabilitation, palliation and end-of-life care to pets.
Originally from South Africa, Dr Charlotte and her family moved to Australia more than a decade ago. Her love of animals began at a very young age, and at just six years old she had already decided that she wanted to become a veterinarian.
As her veterinary career developed, she discovered a growing interest in exploring different ways to support animals beyond traditional veterinary medicine. This led her to complete the internationally recognised CCRP (Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner) training and to develop a deep passion for physical rehabilitation and mobility care. This interest in rehabilitation also led her to explore veterinary acupuncture. And Charlotte went on to complete the IVAS (International Veterinary Acupuncture Society) course, which was held in Melbourne in 2016, an opportunity that ultimately prompted her and her families move to Australia.
Dr Charlotte is now a mum to two beautiful girls and says that parenting has taught her a great deal about herself. She is also kept busy at home with her four cats, including Leo, her very special — and special-needs boy. Her love of animals extends beyond her own pets, and she currently fosters kittens for a local rescue centre.
It always starts with one. Who was your special pet? My passion for animals started with a very special pet, Taiji, a Border Collie × Pointer cross. Today, Leo holds that special place in my heart.
What else are you passionate about? Outside of veterinary medicine, I enjoy spending time with my family, fostering kittens, dabbling in sewing, and curling up with a good book. I have a particular soft spot for kittens and cats, as well as rabbits.
What do you love about palliative medicine? What I love most about palliative medicine is the ability to make a positive difference in a patient’s life, while helping to maintain and honour the special bond between an animal and their family.
