Dr Claire

Palliative Care Veterinarian

Dr Claire Veterinarian Sunshine Coast Hinterland

Dr Claire was born in the West Indies and grew up in Hong Kong before immigrating to Australia. She graduated from the University of Melbourne and spent many years working in small animal practice across Australia. She then spent several years living in UK, before returning to Australia and settling on the Sunshine Coast to be closer to family.

For the past 10 years, Dr Claire has had the privilege of working as a Hospital Director and Lead Veterinarian at a clinic on the Sunshine Coast. With 30 years of experience as a veterinary surgeon, she has cared for countless patients and their families and has always valued the variety and connection that veterinary medicine brings.

Her passion for caring for both pets and the people who love them has led her to palliative care.

It always starts with one. Who was your special pet? Growing up, I always wanted a horse, but after years of negotiating with my father, I finally got a little grey Russian Blue kitten called Smokey for my 9th birthday. She was with me for 20 years and, despite hating everyone else, was devoted to me.  I have been a cat lady ever since.

Ten years ago, my beautiful boy Ranulph came into my life and became my soul dog. He is never far from my side, and the unconditional love of a Labrador is truly something special.

What else are you passionate about? I enjoy spending time in my garden, with my faithful companion Ranulph by my side and Burmese cat Bertie close at my feet. I also love to travel and feel incredibly fortunate to share adventures around the world with my family.

What do you love about palliative medicine? I have always cared deeply for my patients and their people; it is at the heart of why I do what I do. What I love most about palliative care is having the time to support pets and families through their toughest days, focusing on comfort, dignity and easing suffering.
