Melbourne Palliative Care Veterinarian

Dr Melyssa is a Melbourne-based Mobile Vet who delivers peaceful and compassionate palliative and end-of-life care to pets.

Dr Melyssa graduated from Murdoch University in Perth in 2012 with a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (BVMS). After completing an internship in Small Animal Medicine and Oncology, she moved to Melbourne, where she spent 12 years providing compassionate care in general practice.

Known for her kindness, patience, and empathy, Dr Mel particularly enjoys supporting families through palliative care. She also has experience in ophthalmology and gastrointestinal medicine.

Building honest, caring relationships with pets and their families is at the heart of her approach.

Veterinary special interests

Palliative and Geriatric Medicine, Ophthalmology, and Gastrointestinal Medicine.

It always starts with one:

I grew up surrounded by Weimaraners, who were fiercely loyal family members, and over the years my family cared for four of them. My most special companion is my Schnauzer, Franki. I fell in love with her when her breeder brought her to my clinic for her first vaccinations.

She has an incredible intuition for when people need comfort, which inspired me to certify her as a therapy dog. Together, we visited very sick patients and their families at our local hospital, bringing comfort and joy. Though now retired, she still shows that same intuition and reminds me of the simple ways we can offer empathy and care during difficult times.

What else are you passionate about?

Outside of veterinary work, Dr Mel enjoys exploring nature with her husband, two children, and Schnauzer, Franki. She also loves creative hobbies, including sewing, gardening, sketching, and cooking.

What do you love about Palliative medicine?

Palliative medicine allows me to support all family members, both pets and humans. I love working closely with families to tailor care to their pets’ needs and help improve their quality of life. This work is deeply rewarding.
