Barnaby’s Home Euthanasia Story
One of the greatest fears many pet owners have is that saying goodbye will become the memory that defines their pet’s life.

Recently, one of our families generously shared the story of saying goodbye to their beloved dog, Barnaby. With their permission, we’re honoured to share part of their experience in the hope it may comfort other families preparing for their own farewell.
Every Goodbye Can Be Personal
There is no right or wrong way to prepare for an in-home goodbye.
- Some families gather photographs.
- Some invite close family or friends.
- Others simply sit quietly together.
What makes these moments meaningful isn’t following a checklist. It’s creating an experience that reflects the unique relationship you shared with your pet.
For Barnaby’s family, that meant something deeply personal.
As his family shared:
“During our final few walks, we collected clippings of all the places he sniffed and used these to create bouquets. I placed some of these bouquets under his paws as he was passing so that he was connected to Country.”
They also gifted bouquets to Dr Karen and the aftercare team as a thank you from Barnaby, while the remaining flowers stayed with him so they would become part of his final journey.
Today, those same trees and plants continue to hold special meaning.
“Now I can see him in all those beautiful trees and plants that line our streets, and can collect my own bouquet on a hard day.”
It’s a beautiful reminder that love doesn’t disappear. Sometimes it simply changes the way we see the world around us.
